Perimenopause

Did you wake up one day after years of being fully immersed in the business of LIFE and suddenly wonder, “What the hell happened?” Not only do you look different in the mirror, but more strikingly, you feel different too? Do your bones ache in places they haven’t before? Are your periods weird ever since you “had Covid”? Do you question who you are and what you are doing with your life only to feel like you are too tired to tap into some passion for doing “something new”? Or maybe you feel like you are in a long, dark tunnel, staring down toward the bright exit on the other side where “life is happening.” Perhaps you’ve had some strange health symptoms that made you (and your doctors) wonder if you had cancer or an autoimmune disease? But your tests come back negative? Do you have jilts in your mood that make you suddenly tear up or want to rage at the drop of a hat?

Perimenopause. The symptoms and onslaught are so vast and diverse. Our changing hormones and their relationship to our brain, our body, and emotional life impact every last cell in our being. Yet, sadly, so little research has been done on this long spanning, life altering period of a woman’s life! Seemingly, only a cliche night sweat can affirm that perimenopause is in swing, but the rest of the myriad symptoms? The hormonal chaos is just starting to be acknowledged, but many women are still left feeling alone and confused.

How women are supported through this time MATTERS. The therapeutic space invites you to come as you are and to feel supported as your body and mind journey through this often intense physical and psychic transition. You will be able to explore what perimenopause means to you and find ease in a therapeutic environment that can hold the multiple complexities of this systemic biological change. Some women need to grieve the ending of their fertility cycle while others may not be able to wait until menstruation officially ends. In addition to the mind-body changes, some women may be experiencing  tensions in their relationships-perhaps with their partner or their kids. Maybe you have a child who is going through puberty while you are simultaneously in perimenopause! I can support you through the variety of interpersonal challenges that may come up and impact how you connect and show up for those that you love (including- and maybe most importantly- your own self!).

And what if… amidst the chaos, you could tap into something deeper and more empowering in this part of your life cycle? Maybe a new (or old?) part of you is waiting to be seen- one that gets to do life on her own terms now!
